Brazil Green Opal is primarily composed of hydrated silica (SiO₂·nH₂O), the same as other opals. Its green color is typically caused by trace amounts of nickel, iron, or chromium inclusions. The exact hue and intensity of the green depend on the mineral content and environmental conditions during formation. Like all opals, Green Opal forms from the slow deposition of silica-rich water in rock cavities. Over time, as the water evaporates, silica particles are left behind and solidified to form opal.
