About the Store

Cosmic Black Cat is owned by Sandra and was opened on April 6, 2024 in downtown Derby across from City Hall. Construction has engulfed the street while Derby gets a major facelift but that hasn't stopped the community from coming together to visit the shop. Thank you all for helping make this happen and we hope that we are respectfully fulfilling the expectations of the local community.

One of the ideas for the shop is "if we build it, they will come" hoping that the community can come together and have an influence on how successful the shop is for us all. Community support is what will help make the shop successful!

The shop offers familiar items and favorites and some new items too. The owner encourages customers to suggest new items and ideas for the shop.

Psychic Faire Saturdays will start on 5/11. Other events will come with time.

The shop is located at:

About Sandra

From a young age, Sandra started exploring her spirituality and her connection to the natural world. Her ancestors are all from Latvia, a culture that embraces its ancient folklore with song, dance, and cultural stories. Learning about her culture had an impact on how she views the world and how we are all connected to nature and things greater than ourselves.

As a young adult she explored these spiritual connections further, letting go of some of the dogma of traditional religion, and delved into her spirituality. She embraced our connection to nature and the universe. By reading books on a number of different spiritualities and cultures around the world she learned about stones and herbs, started pulling her own tarot cards, and cultivated her connection to the Earth and the spiritual world.

She visited mystical shops and had the utmost respect for the shop owners who she knew created more than just stores within the walls of their shops. They created communities where people could go and be understood without judgement or ridicule.

Eventually, her interest in rocks lead her to study Geology at Stony Brook University and she landed some corporate jobs. After working too hard for too long, she knew it was time for a change. The dream of owning a shop came to fruition for a number of reasons, some joyous and some bittersweet. She hopes to open the doors to the community and embrace everyone's journey by meeting them where they are on their own spiritual path.
