Curated Book & Deck Trade-Ins

The Black Cat Exchange is our curated trade-in program for gently used books and tarot/oracle decks that align with the focus of our shop.

This is not a general donation drop-off program. All items are reviewed for condition, relevance, resale potential, and available shop capacity.

📚 What We Accept

We may accept:

• Witchcraft, folk magic, and occult studies
• Tarot, oracle decks, astrology, and divination
• Mysticism, metaphysical topics, and spiritual traditions
• Herbalism and natural healing
• Personal growth and healing
• Young adult fantasy with mythological or spiritual themes
• Select children's books focused on folklore, mythology, nature, or spirituality

Items that closely match the shop's focus and current inventory needs are more likely to be accepted.

📦 Intake Limits

Books: Larger book collections may now be accepted. If bringing 10 or more books, please place them in a sturdy box or storage bin for easier storage and processing.

Tarot and oracle decks remain limited to 2 decks per person, per calendar month.

To help us manage intake, please limit large book drop-offs to one standard storage bin (approximately 18 gallons) per visit.

Large collections may still take up to 2 weeks to process. Instant processing is not always available.

✅ Condition Requirements

Items must be:

• Clean
• Complete
• In good resale condition

We cannot accept items with water damage, mold, smoke odors, missing components, excessive writing, or significant wear.

📋 How It Works

Bring your items in during store hours.

All submissions require:

• Name
• Phone number
• Email address

Items may be reviewed immediately or left for processing. Large collections may take up to 2 weeks for evaluation.

💳 Store Credit or Donation

For accepted items, you may choose:

• Store credit
• Donate your exchange credit to benefit local animal rescues

No cash is offered for trade-ins.

Store credit never expires and may be redeemed in $25 increments to help keep the exchange program sustainable.

Store credit is typically based on condition, demand, resale value, and current inventory needs. Acceptance and valuation are determined at the discretion of the shop.

📦 Unaccepted Items

Items left for review remain your property until a trade-in offer is accepted.

Items not accepted must be picked up within 7 days of notification unless other arrangements have been made. Due to limited storage space, unclaimed items may be donated, recycled, or responsibly discarded.

The information above covers most trade-ins, but every exchange is unique. Processing times, acceptance, and credit amounts may vary based on item condition, demand, inventory needs, and current shop capacity.
